In the quest to comprehensively redesign the Silverado HD chassis to improve durability and ride, while also supporting increased capability, engineers developed 11 all-new, fully boxed frame assemblies. The frames have increased cross sections and use more high-strength steel for greater durability, higher towing capacity and improved ride and handling; the front sections are hydroformed.
The bending and beaming stiffness of the frames is increased 92 percent and 20 percent, respectively, with the fully boxed sections enhancing torsional stiffness by a factor of five. Also, larger engine and transmission mounts, coupled with a 125-percent-stiffer front frame structure, provide greater vibration control, while hydraulic body mounts are incorporated under the cab section on extended and crew cab models for a more isolated feel inside.
Engineers addressed common customer and aftermarket uses when designing the new frames, including adding access holes to the rear frame section to enable easier installation of fifth-wheel/gooseneck-style hitches. Also, the frame-mounted hitch for conventional trailering is stronger, with a box-tube design. It supports up to 16,000 pounds (7,257 kg).

Regular and extended cab models have a 6-foot 1-inch (1.85 m) pickup bed with taller sides than many competitors, providing best-in-class volume for deeper storage and higher overall payload – and a standard bed liner. Crew cab bed lengths are 5-foot 1-inch (1.55 m).
Both beds offer two-tier cargo loading, and tailgates that are both lockable and easily removable. The tailgate opens to almost 90 degrees, but can be set at a 55-degree opening – putting the tailgate edge at the same height as the top of the rear wheel wells within the cargo box, creating a sturdy, flat platform to conveniently transport longer items or 4-foot by 8-foot (1.2-meter by 2.4-meter) panels.
Colorado also delivers class-leading refinement with features such as hydraulically assisted rack-and-pinion steering; large front disc brakes with twin-piston calipers; independent suspension with coil-over front shocks on 2WD models (except Z71 and V-8); front torsion bars on all 4WD models, as well as 2WD Z71 models and 2WD with the V-8 and Z85 suspension; and specifically tuned powertrain and body mounts that help reduce interior noise and vibration.
Three suspension choices are available: the rugged Z85 suspension standard on 2WD or 4WD models, the Z71 off-road suspension, also available in 2WD and 4WD – with 17-inch wheels – and the ZQ8 sport suspension.
2011 Chevrolet Colorado Truck
The base engine in all but Z71-equipped crew cabs is a powerful, 2.9L DOHC four-cylinder with variable valve timing (VVT) that delivers 185 horsepower (138 kW) and 190 lb.-ft. of torque (258 Nm).* Available in all models – and standard in the crew cab with 4WD – is a 3.7L DOHC five-cylinder with VVT that is rated at 242 horsepower (180 kW) and 242 lb.-ft. of torque (328 Nm).*
The available 5.3L V-8 is based on GM’s legendary small-block V-8 architecture, delivering exceptional power and torque that is rare in the Colorado’s class. Horsepower is rated at 300 (224 kW)* and torque is 320 lb.-ft. (434 Nm)*.
Transferring the Colorado engines’ torque to the axles is an Aisin five-speed manual transmission or a Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronically controlled four-speed automatic. The manual transmission is standard with the four-cylinder engine – except for crew cab models, where it is not available. The automatic is standard with the five-cylinder engine and V-8; and available with the four-cylinder (standard with crew cab models).
Colorado’s four-wheel-drive system provides added confidence and safety for the driver. The dash-mounted electronic ‘shift-on-the-fly’ system allows the driver to move from rear- to four-wheel drive at any speed when road conditions demand a change. A locking rear differential is available on 2WD models and 4WD models. Additionally, three rear-end gear ratios are available for V-8 models: 3.42:1, 3.73:1 and 4.10:1; four- and five-cylinder models have a standard 3.73 rear axle.

The popular ZQ8 sport suspension gives the Colorado sports car-like handling attributes, as well as the lowered appearance of tuner vehicles. The package includes specific steering and track-tuned suspension enhancements that stiffen the suspension by about 30 percent. The steering system receives a high-performance cooler and underhood temperatures and airflow are controlled with a unique sealing system.
Additionally, the ride height is ‘slammed’ – it is lower than the standard Z85 suspension by approximately one inch (25 mm) – and ZQ8-equipped trucks ride on unique 18 x 8-inch aluminum wheels and low-profile sport tires. The result is crisp handling and maneuverability, along with a great stance.
Color-keyed front and rear bumpers, fascia grille and grille bar are part of the ZQ8′s appearance, with the grille accented with a chrome surround. Six exterior colors are offered: Deep Navy, White, Victory Red, Aqua Blue Metallic, Black Granite Metallic and Techno Gray Metallic. Inside, the ZQ8 features unique seats not offered in other Colorado models, trimmed in Ebony cloth.

2011 American Crossover Chevrolet Equinox
Ever since the new-for-2011 Chevrolet Equinox rolled into dealer showrooms last year, consumers have responded enthusiastically to this just-the-right-size crossover. It delivers distinctive styling and best-in-segment EPA highway fuel economy of 32 miles per gallon when equipped with the standard Ecotec 2.4L direct injected engine.
Equinox enters the 2011 model year in very high demand, with vehicles purchased by customers almost immediately after they reach dealers. More than half of Equinox buyers have switched from non-GM brands. And to keep up with demand, GM is retooling part of the plant to further increase production capacity.
Available in LS, LT and LTZ trim, with available all-wheel drive, the Equinox complements its styling and fuel efficiency with attention to detail and unexpected features.
2011 Chevrolet Equinox Suv
Both the standard Ecotec 2.4L engine and available 3.0 L V-6 in the Chevrolet Equinox feature fuel-saving direct injection and variable valve timing technology.
The standard 2.4L Ecotec direct injected I-4 engine is rated at 182 horsepower (136 kW), which delivers segment-best EPA-estimated fuel economy of 32 mpg highway, 22 mpg city and AWD models rated at 20 city/29 highway.
The 3.0L V-6 is rated at 264 horsepower (197 kW), which delivers an EPA-estimated 25 mpg highway, 17 mpg city. For 2011, it also offers FlexFuel capability that allows the Equinox to operate on gasoline, E85 bioethanol or a combination of both. E85 comprises 85 percent bioethanol, a domestically produced, renewable fuel that produces fewer greenhouse gases in the combustion process, and 15 percent gasoline. Chevrolet produces more FlexFuel models than any other automotive brand.
Other Equinox features include:
• Six-speed automatic transmission and an ‘eco’ mode on the 2.4L-equipped model that alters shift points to improve fuel economy
• Highway-only driving range of up to 600 miles (800 km) with the Ecotec 2.4L engine and more than 500 miles with the 3.0L engine mean less-frequent fill-ups

The Equinox features Chevy’s signature global face – a two-tier grille and prominent gold bowtie insignia. Strong fender shapes, a distinctive premium roofline, wraparound headlamps and dual round taillamps are additional elements that define Equinox as a true Chevrolet.Equinox’s rocker panels are integrated into the doors to make it easier to get in and out of the vehicle. They narrow the area over which a passenger must step, offering protection for pant legs that could brush against dirty rockers. Also, chrome trim and flush-fitting ‘exposed-edge’ windshield and rear glass reinforce Equinox’s build quality and reduce bothersome wind noise.

The Equinox interior features thoughtful attention to detail that makes it an ideal family vehicle – including a number of storage bins, an oversized glove box; a closed storage bin in the instrument panel above the center stack; and closed storage under the center armrest large enough for a laptop computer.
A ‘floating’ center stack houses many ergonomic comfort and convenience controls. Contemporary, ice-blue ambient lighting – featured within and surrounding the center stack, encircling the center-console cupholders and within the door pull cups – accentuates the cabin and provides an upscale-looking environment. The front and rear seats, which include cloth and uplevel, perforated leather-trimmed offerings, are designed for best-in-class comfort. For 2011, the 2LT model includes standard heated cloth seats and a compass is added to the LS model.
Front-seat fore-aft travel of 10 inches (25 mm), combined with the tilt/telescoping steering wheel and standard power-adjustable seat height, offer exceptional driver comfort. The Equinox’s MultiFlex rear seat capability allows the seat to be moved fore or aft nearly eight inches (203 mm), for the best rear legroom in its class. With the 60/40-split-back rear seat moved all the way forward, the cargo area offers 31.4 cubic feet (889 liters) of storage.
Noise-absorbing elements are built into the chassis, engine compartment and interior, making the Equinox cabin noticeably quiet. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology on 2.4L-equipped models uses microphones to detect booming sounds inside the vehicle and sends counteracting sound waves through the audio system’s speakers, providing a quiet driving experience at almost all vehicle speeds.
