The Enclave also offers a starting price that beats luxury brands by thousands, even though it offers a host of standard equipment and the industry’s best warranty coverage. Enclave also includes a Panic Brake Assist feature. When an emergency braking maneuver is detected, the system automatically develops additional brake pressure to more quickly engage ABS, potentially reducing overall stopping distance by eliminating the delay that can occur if a driver does not brake hard enough and/or soon enough.

All Buicks, including Enclave, are equipped with segment-exclusive OnStar (including a six-month Directions and Connections plan), which features the Advanced Crash Response System. Ninety percent of the Enclave engine’s peak torque is available from approximately 2,500 rpm to more than 6,000 rpm. Also, using unique pistons with the direct injection system helps reduce cold-start emissions by 25 percent.

The 3.6L engine is mated to the Hydra-Matic 6T75 electronically controlled six-speed automatic transmission. Its wide, 6.04:1 overall ratio helps the transmission deliver both performance and fuel economy, enabling up to a 7-percent improvement in performance and up to a 4-percent improvement in fuel economy when compared to front-wheel-drive four-speed automatics. The transmission has been designed so that the Enclave can be flat-towed in FWD and AWD configurations. The Enclave can tow up to 4,500 pounds (2,045 kg) when properly equipped.Credit for Enclave’s car-like driving experience is attributed to its stiff structure, its purpose-built suspension and aerodynamic shape.

Enclave’s smooth and controlled driving feel features standard variable-effort power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering supported by independent front and rear suspension designs. The tops of the struts are mounted to the chassis through isolated mounts, with ball bearings that reduce steering friction. The inboard pivot points of the lower control arms are mounted to a rigid engine cradle that is fully isolated from the chassis to reduce the level of road noise into the cabin.

The system automatically decides how to distribute torque based upon vehicle speed, throttle position and individual wheel slip. Enclave’s second-row seats feature GM’s Smart Slide system, a popular feature that allows easy entry to the third row with the pull of one handle. With Smart Slide, the second-row seat cushion flips up while the seatback slides forward, compressing the space occupied by the seat. The seats also have fore/aft adjustment. When adjusted rearward, the second-row seat provides more legroom for taller passengers; when adjusted forward, it provides more storage space or additional legroom for third-row passengers.

While the 2010 LaCrosse is certainly the current spearhead of the movement, the Enclave is the one that started it all, standing as Buick’s most luxurious offering until the debut of the all-new 2010 LaCrosse. Bear in mind however, that the Enclave is awaiting a 2011 redesign that should bring a sharper, sleeker, more luxurious vehicle to the lineup.

2010 Buick Enclave.With an aggressive wide-stance, the ’10 Enclave has an exterior that demands attention and this is probably one part we hope that GM designers leave virtually untouched. The front features the standard Buick grille and a body that flows very fluidly in all directions. High-intensity discharge projector headlamps adorn the sides of the grill, and sit just over the front-fog lamps.

Standard exterior features include power lift-gate, chrome roof rails, and heated turn-signal side-view mirrors that retract. This all sits on 19’ machined aluminum wheels that bring a touch of vibrance, but maintain the sleek subtlety of the entire design. The extreme rear of the vehicle also features a subtle but elegant chrome-tipped dual exhaust.

Our test-model, the Enclave, CXL-2 trim, builds upon all of the above by swapping out the machined aluminum wheels and replacing them with chrome-clad ones.

Overall, the Enclave is one of the best looking crossovers in this segment. It is indeed the best looking crossover based on GM’s Lambda platform, which also includes the GMC Acadia, the Chevrolet Traverse and the late Saturn Outlook.

The Enclave certainly offers luxury and space – tons of space, with comfortable seating for 7 passengers and ample cargo space with features and functionality for everyone from executive to soccer mom.

The broad and high front dash draws attention frontward with its center analog clock placed under a protruding curve that sits atop the center of the dash; it is somewhat reminiscent of a grandfather clock. Amenities available to front seat passengers include; heated/cooled seats, 4-way power adjustable passenger seat, 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat with memory, power lumbar support, tri-zone (driver, front passenger, back) climate control, and a power tilt and telescoping leather wrapped steering wheel with wood accents and wheel mounted audio controls for the driver.

The second-row captains seats feature the ‘Smart Slide’ feature which enables the seats to fold flat like in a traditional SUV, or completely collapse themselves and slide forward right behind the front seats. All rows also feature floor mats, and the third row comes equipped with a 60/40 split bench seat.
